Online training programme & community
Emergents online training programme is aimed at designer makers that have been working professionally for at least 3 years and want to grow their business.
Run from May 2015 until March 2016 with Patricia van den Akker from The Design Trust, applications have now closed. However, we may open up areas of the course for makers from the Highlands and Islands who we feel may benefit.
Further updates on the programme and participants will be added as the course progresses.

Patricia van den Akker is the Director of The Design Trust, the online business school for designers and makers, that gets over 25K visitors/month. She is a very experienced creative business adviser, coach and trainer, and is known for her practical, no-nonsense and inspiring approach. She writes very regularly about craft & design businesses, including The Design Doctor – the business column of Crafts Magazine.
There will be three themed courses on this programme, providing online training, an online forum, online feedback from Patricia, 3 live workshops/events and coaching by Patricia and other invited experts, as well as creative role models.
- May/June 2015: What do you want and how do you get there?
Including business and financial planning, creating your business model, setting juicy goals, focus on your niche, creating a purpose and mission, building your confidence and resilience. - Sept/Oct 2015: Advanced marketing & selling
including selling & marketing online masterclass, wholesale masterclass, making the most of the Christmas market. - Jan/Feb 2016: Growing with confidence
including diversifying your income, pricing & repositioning yourself & rebranding, exporting & selling internationally, working with others, raising your profile as an established maker, systems, time management.
The programme aims to:
- provide professional expert advice, coaching and training on creating a sustainable one-person business or growing your business.
- create a professional online community of established designer makers who can stimulate and support each other.
- inspire designer makers to make their business more sustainable, to network with others and to learn from successful role models.
