Go and See Report – Beth Legg Workshop, An Lanntair, Stornoway
May 2017

With the support of a “Go and See” Grant from Emergents I was very pleased to be able to attend a two day workshop run by precious metal worker Beth Legg at An Lanntair, Stornoway.

Having recently moved to the Highlands I found myself at a creative standstill with too many “practical’ considerations filling my head. So it was a rare treat to have two days focusing on drawing.

Beth proved to be a gentle and supportive tutor allowing me to follow the themes that interested me whilst challenging my perceived outcomes. Spending the first morning exploring Stornoway in search of inspiring imagery and objects made me realise how little time I had recently given to looking at the world around me and how important this is to my practice.

I found working with a group of people and in a space I was unfamiliar initially challenging but everyone was great and it was interesting to see the different ways we all worked.

By the end of the second day I felt I was just beginning to get into my stride and would have loved another day to continue to develop my ideas. However I managed to fill a small sketchbook and continue to develop themes and ideas.  My participation in this workshop helped me refocus my practice and develop new ideas.
