Hazel Passmore – Go & See Report
Jewellery & Silversmithing – Summer Short Course (wax carving)
I attended another amazing course this year from 17-20 July at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design taught by Sandra Wilson and Nuno Borges. It was a four day course and I would have been happy to do a week or more! Loved this!
I did my degree at DOJCAD but the opportunities available on the Jewellery Degree course now are far greater. We got a taste of some of these during this course using traditional techniques in the lost wax casting process in basic and advanced techniques including – cuttlefish and delft clay to create pieces of jewellery from our own individual designs, carved in different types of wax.
The 4 days were packed with in depth information for the beginner and for those who had previous experience in jewellery or worked in the industry. We were also shown around and given a quick demo of the 3D Scanning department. Here you can see what can be achieved in different materials, producing something using traditional and contemporary techniques and it’s not just the jewellery department but the synergy from all departments to produce something in 3D from a seed of an idea, whether it’s a piece of jewellery or a statue!
Highly recommend this summer course look out for it next year!
