XpoNorth (Writing & Publishing), in association with Hebrides International Film Festival 2017 (HIFF), is pleased to announce a masterclass for young screenwriters and filmmakers with Canadian screen writer, editor and director, Justin Oakey.
From rural Newfoundland, in this masterclass, Justin will explore the processes behind writing and producing his first feature film, Riverhead, which tells the story of a family blood feud with a chilling familiarity and realism which plays out on the Newfoundland landscape. As a screen writer, Justin’s credit’s also include the critically acclaimed short, Flankers.
Manager of XPONorth’s programme in writing and publishing, Peter Urpeth, said:
“We are delighted to announce this masterclass for young screenwriters and filmmakers, and as part of the ambitious and inspiring programme of HIFF 2017.
“In Riverhead, Justin Oakey has produced a film that will resonate with many young creatives, especially those from Island communities, and this session will not only explore Justin’s creative processes, but enable an examination of the principles of writing and producing feature-length work that draws on the experience of creativity in remote communities, and the experience of drawing on your own home environment and community to produce challenging creative work. Justin’s experience is potentially highly valuable for young, locally-based creatives in the islands, and this is a very good learning and networking opportunity.”
The Masterclass with Justin Oakey takes place at An Lanntair Pocket Cinema, Stornoway, Wednesday 13th September 2017 at 2pm. The event is free.
Oakey’s film, Riverhead, is being screened as part of HIFF 2017 at 5.30pm in An Lanntair, Stornoway on Wednesday 13th September.
